question from a user

Do you have any patients where trt has made erection quality worse? I’ve been on trt for 4 months with all bloods in range but feel like my erection quality is much worse then prior to trt. Would it be smart to come off before it’s too late?

AlphaMD's Answer

So, hormones are only a small part of erection quality, though an important part. As a general rule of thumb, if you get morning wood, but have ED during other times, then the cause of your ED is very likely not hormonal.Interestingly, estradiol and DHT play a greater role in erections than testosterone. Also, prolactin plays an important role. Make sure that you check these levels with your doctor. If all is in range, remember that just like the “normal range” for diagnostic purposes when starting TRT, you need to remember that those ranges are for the population as a whole. Not for you as an individual.I have several patients who can’t get an erection if their estradiol is above 30. Generally that would be considered in the acceptable range, but not for these men.
